Mother's Day BanquetMother's Day is a special time for moms and kids at the end of Metro Moms Week in New York City. Each year, NYCRM hosts a Mother's Day Banquet—the day before Mother's Day—for the those in need.
Throughout the day, approximately 500 homeless mothers and children from city shelters are treated to fine dining, gospel jazz entertainment, and one-on-one attention from celebrity volunteers. Guests experience pampering, gifts and flowers—benefits every mother deserves on this special day.
Participating in the banquet is the Walter Hoving Home, founded in 1967 to help women who are homeless, struggling with addictions, or involved in prostitution or other criminal behavior. A choir of women from the Home sing, share personal testimonies, serve and provide encouragement to attendees the entire day of the banquet.
One way you may support this event is by giving financially to feed hungry and homeless New Yorkers. If you are able to sponsor a table for $1,000, please email our Director of Development, Tom Hall, or call him at 212-226-6214 ext 121. Another way to help is by donating gifts for the hundreds of women's and children's gift bags we hand out. You may also volunteer, though space is limited and groups normally sign up to volunteer for this event far in advance.
The event is in honor of Maria McAuley who, in partnership with her husband Jerry, founded New York City Rescue Mission in 1872.
