Mission Accomplished!
December 3, four men proudly and humbly graduated NYCRM’s Residential Recovery Program. Proud because some of these men had never finished anything significant before in their life. Humble because of recognizing how far they have come with the help and grace of God and supporters.
One graduate, Francisco, shared his testimony through an interpreter, though his English has greatly improved since joining the program. His ESL tutor, Mariama, was in attendence for the ceremony. Francisco had basically been intoxicated for six years straight before coming to New York City Rescue Mission. He got teary-eyed while receiving his certificate of completion.
One graduate earned his GED in the program and another is about to take the GED exam. Two of the four graduates have already started working jobs.
NYCRM alumnus Robert Harvey encouraged graduates as well as current residents to not give up. Bob has recently started coming to the Mission every Thursday evening to mentor residents and graduates in the transition period from institutional to independent living.
