Milton's Testimony
My name is Milton Perkins. I came to New York City Rescue Mission in September 2003. I had lost my job, house, car -- and my respectability. I was heavily in debt.
Through the resident program at the Mission, I discovered the love and patience of God. I thought I knew God but I had never felt a need to know Him personally. There was nothing to lose and everything to gain. It was here that I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.
Through the Step program and personal counseling I began to see other areas in my life that had gone wrong. I also joined a church where I have been able to have guidance through the pastor and leaders.
During the past 12 months, I have begun to understand what it means to be a “man of God.” My old idea of being a man has changed. Being a real man is to be a person who is honest, faithful and kind. Despite my rough edges, the staff has nurtured and slowly encouraged real change in me. Their patience and guidance is much appreciated, and they will always have a special place in my heart.
I also became a leader of a youth ministry at church. It is my desire to be a good example to other men by seeking a more intimate understanding of Christ and my place in the family of God.
In the course of one year, my old hurts and failures have been lifted. I feel totally renewed. It has been like getting another chance at life. With God by my side, I am able to face life’s challenges.
I am thankful for those who support NYCRM so that men like me may have another opportunity in life. To God be the Glory!
