Bob's Testimony
My name is Bob. Before I came to Christ I was addicted to drugs and alcohol. I only thought of myself. I had to have what I wanted at any cost. I didn’t care who I hurt. My outlook on God was very poor.
On July 18, 2003, I hit rock bottom. I lost everything. My supervisor said, “You must get help or don’t come back.” So I went to my sister. Even she said that in my condition she couldn’t help.
I was “HOMELESS.” I will never forget those words. So I gave in. Between my sister, my boss and my pastor I came to the New York Rescue Mission. I was lost, confused and alone.
On July 24, 2003, the mission took us to Ocean Grove, a beach on the New Jersey shore. I walked around and went to the fisherman’s pier. I looked over the ocean waves crashing to the shore and I prayed, “God, what have I done? Please help me.” I don’t know how long I stood there, but from that point on my life changed.
This month I will graduate from the residency program. In that time my doctor gave me a clean bill of health. I learned all about computers. I have a new outlook on life and now take the time to count my blessings. I have my family and friends to help me go on. I have learned to love Christ and live in His word.
My life was out of control; I was running around in circles and getting nowhere. Now, with God’s help, I have new direction to reach for the top and believe that I can succeed. I am seeing things like a baby, through a new pair of eyes.
Shortly before graduation I returned to work — grateful for a patient and loving employer who gave me the opportunity to seek positive change in my life.
I am also grateful to all of you who donate, volunteer and help this mission. You helped me get my life back. And I especially thank God!
